On January 1, 2019, I embarked on a yearlong daily art project titled Daily Thread. When the year ended, I had completed 18 abstract embroidery pieces stitched with pearl cotton on linen, which I stretched on 6-inch x 6-inch canvases. As with my 2016 stitch journal (A Year in Thread), I stitched every day of the year, usually early in the morning, using one color of thread each day. Each Daily Thread piece has a particular theme, chosen at the outset, such as "snow," "sky," "bark and bramble," "verdant," or "winged."

My stitch journals function something like a calendar or diary — one that records not appointments and events, but color, weather, flora, and fauna. They allow viewers to immerse themselves in a year's worth of time and move at their leisure from one season to another.
